Personal work memory can help AI recognize project names, customers, roles, terminology, and long-term context. But not every task should inherit that background. A sensitive client project, a report that must rely only on today’s evidence, or a clean comparison between prompts may require memory to be completely excluded.

Which workflows stop using memory?

When global memory is disabled, saved personal memory is no longer read or injected into:

  • automatic screenshot analysis;
  • direct daily, weekly, and monthly report generation;
  • browser-based reports through DeepSeek, Doubao, Yuanbao, or ChatGPT;
  • scheduled automatic daily reports;
  • AI conversations launched from the work timeline.

Related controls, including memory-assisted screenshot analysis and manual memory refresh, are disabled as well. This avoids the confusing situation where a top-level switch appears off while a secondary feature continues using the same context.

Disabling memory is not the same as deleting it

The switch controls use, not storage. Turning memory off does not automatically erase the existing local memory. If you enable the feature later, the previously saved content may be available again.

Permanent removal is a separate data-management action. Users who want deletion should also consider exported backups that may contain memory data. Keeping “temporarily do not use” separate from “permanently erase” prevents accidental loss of useful long-term context.

Why a dedicated no-memory prompt matters

Simply omitting the memory text is not always enough. If a prompt still contains a heading such as “User memory” followed by an empty section, the model may assume that information is missing or mention the absence in its answer.

XiaoHei now uses a dedicated no-memory prompt path for browser-based reporting. The memory section is removed cleanly, allowing the model to focus on the current records, report template, instructions, and app-usage summary.

When should you temporarily disable memory?

Strict separation between clients or projects

If information from one client must never influence another, starting without personal memory reduces the chance that an old name or historical detail appears in the new report.

Evidence-only reporting

Some reports must be based strictly on records from the selected period. Generating a no-memory version helps reveal whether long-term context is filling gaps that should instead be documented explicitly.

Diagnosing inaccurate output

If a report repeatedly uses an outdated role, project name, or assumption, disable memory and generate again. When the no-memory version is correct, the better fix is to update or shorten personal memory rather than repeatedly editing every report.

The switch does not control every data source

Disabling personal memory does not prevent current timeline records from being sent to the selected AI path. Default cloud models, custom APIs, local models, and browser accounts have different data routes. Choose the path that matches the sensitivity of the work.

Clipboard recording, screenshot exclusions, window context, and backup exports also have independent settings. Privacy requires control over each input source, not reliance on a single master button.

A practical privacy review

  • Check global memory status before generating sensitive reports.
  • Review screenshot exclusion rules.
  • Disable clipboard logging when it is unnecessary.
  • Select a model route appropriate for the data.
  • Inspect client names, people, and old project details before sharing.
  • Update or delete obsolete personal memory regularly.

AI memory is useful only when it remains optional. A reliable global switch gives users a clear boundary: context can assist when wanted and stay out of the workflow when it is not.
